Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My name is Cynthia and my problem is lower back pain. I am currently taking two 300 mg of gabapentin and one tramadol twice a day for the pain. It is somewhat controlled, but I stlll suffer from the back poain which sometimes is also in my left thigh. It is worse when I get up from sleeping or sitting. Is it possible I have become immune to the pain meds after taking it for over two years?

Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist, Dr. Vipul Agrawal 's Response
Hello, as per your complaints it seems that the medicines you are taking are reducing your pain but not exactly are involved in treating it completely, due to following reasons: 1. Either you are suffering from piriformis syndrome, where these medicines have minimal effect. 2. Either the pain threshold is very low, making these doses highly ineffective.
you need some change of medications, including muscle relaxants, along with certain stretching exercises. Also, get your Vitamin D and B12 levels checked. COnsult a physiatrist (PMR specialist) if needed.
